What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Bob Brown Service Experts in Phoenix always writes about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it actually mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Bob Brown Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Bob Brown Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating

  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
